Electronic Engineer - Hardware & FIRMWARE

 

 

 

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be central to the company's in-house electrical and electronics engineering activities. You should have 3 years of broad based electronics design and firmware programming experience, including the following areas:

  • Analog (op amps, sensors)
  • Digital (PID control, data and control communications)
  • Embedded microcontrollers (PIC)
  • CCS and High-Tech Compilers
  • Embedded video
  • Fiber optic video and data transmission
  • Motion control (digital control, power, feedback)
  • Power (distribution, conversion)
  • RF (data communications)
  • PCB Design (Protel)
  • EMC/EMI
  • System integration (interface)

The ideal candidate will be expected to perform various engineering tasks with minimal supervision, including circuit design, firmware design and debug, coordinating consultant designs, liaison with electromechanical engineers, produce standardized documentation, develop assembly and testing procedures, cost reduction engineering, interface auxiliary electronic equipment, provide manufacturing support and trouble shooting of electronic systems associated with underwater robotics.

The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and capable of acting as project coordinator to a small team of engineers and technicians. It is important that you enjoy working through all phases of the product development cycle from R&D through prototype engineering and pre-production engineering to sustaining engineering. You should have experience designing an assortment of electronics, PCBs, cabling and electro-mechanical integration.

This position will suit an experienced Electrical Engineer with a good breadth of knowledge and the drive to operate and analyze at the systems level as well as the subassembly and component level. A background in video, digital, analog and RF design would be an advantage. Programming in C and Assembly, Marine, Oceanographic and/or Underwater knowledge and experience are a plus.

Candidate must be hands-on, able to design new products and support current products through detailed analysis and continuous improvement of existing designs. Excellent troubleshooting skills are required. You must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Minimum BS/EE or equivalent required; MS a plus.

 

Salary

The base Salary range is $50,000 to $60,000 DOE
